2005 in a nutshell
Okay so this is the same "survey" i did for 2003 and 2004... should be funny doing the A/B/C on this one...
1. What did you do in 2005 that you've never done before:
broke up with my GF and got back with her...started a job in a new field
2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
my resolution was to try to be healthier, more focused, and a more attentive father (yet still remain aggressive and "in touch")! i think i failed miserably on the "healthier" part, did OK in the focus department, and i think i made some good progress as a father. my new job made it easier to be a "regular" dad and especially during the second half of the year Lauryn helped me be the best dad i've been in years... i really feel like WE provided them with a balanced home - also, i really got closer to Tres this year!! i think since his mom had a new daughter he's no longer the "baby" of their house... but he's still the baby of ours and i think the transition allowed him to get more intimate with me. i think he's also beginning to know what exactly i AM too him. that i'm his REAL dad and that he's named after me... i sense a li'l bit of pride there that he has been too young pick up on until recently! new resolution? to get back to updating this damn journal :)
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
my ex had a beautiful baby girl so now bekah and tres have a li'l (half)sister!!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
my best friend, Bob's dad died. Byron Hood Sr. he was a great man, a loving and supporting father and the biggest and best thing in my best friend's life. he was also the closest thing to a 2nd dad i had... we weren't extremely close but he was like family... always there and always kind. he died on thanksgiving morning. bob has been taking it hard and it's made me think a lot about my dad.
5. What places did you visit?
i don't think i went anywhere this year... too busy working!!
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
same as last year: new car and mo' money :)
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
friday, march 4th... we booked a show called Laurynpalooza for lauryn's birthday with some of her fave bands/friends: Jacknife/Lame/Dryline/Faint The Fiction @ The Aardvark... well, we broke up a couple weeks before the show so needless to say everything surrounding that show was really awkward... she didn't show up, but i must admit i was hoping she would all night... we got back together within a month :) another date: 12/04 my birthday show and the day i popped the question to lauryn!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
in april Trees asked me to come back to hosting Sunday nights for them... let me clarify that this was an achievement NOT so much because we got the show back, but rather because it showed me that there were those that appreciated the effort i put into that showcase. back in 2004 the "last show" at the old sunday local show at trees was a tough one (you can read about in another entry) but the comeback really solidified the relevance of what i was trying to do there. admittedly, with no radio support the show was never quite the same as the old eagle local show, but it was still loved and appreciated by an awesome core group... another achievement is that i got engaged to the love of my life!!
9. What was your biggest failure?
getting another kick-ass local music program on the radio...i tried to do a show with renegaderadio.net but between the new job and personal life changes i just didn't have the time to really give it all i should have...thanks to jerry and co. for the opportunity, tho!
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
nope. pretty healthy... got sick a li'l but nothing that kept me down too long...thank you God!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Lauryn's engagement ring!!
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Lauryn broke my heart in february and saved my life in april! since we've got back together i have been so much more happy, confident, and secure... ok, maybe i'm co-dependent but i'm OK with that -lol- we are lovers and BEST FRIENDS! she has been so supportive of me. she's worked hard at her job, stepped up to the plate with my children, and has become my right hand (wo)man with scream for me dallas! i love being with her: looking at her, sitting, sleeping, and eating with her... we have gained a whole new trust for each other. breaking up was the best thing that could have happened to us - it forced us to see what it was like without each other and neither of us wanna go there again!!
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
the behavior of a lot of my "friends" in the d/fw local scene disappointed me. with no strong radio support and the deep ellum district going to hell in a hand-basket the scene really suffered. unfortunately, many found it easier to backbite and point the finger rather than unite for the greater good. i place myself right in their midst as i was guilty of the same in some ways... but i think i removed my head from my ass and saw the writing on the wall - let's hope more do so before we lose it all...
14. Where did most of your money go?
just like last year: CHILD SUPPORT!!!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
i got a new job with 100.3 Jack FM - it's not nearly as glamorous as what i did with the eagle but it's great to be back in the industry... also, i really love the format and whole hearted-ly enjoy the music (which is a big MUST for me).
16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
there's two: "scars" by papa roach reminds me of when me and lauryn broke up... and "the promise" by when in rome is the song i sang to lauryn (with christian from frolic) on 12/04 at my birthday/our engagement show...
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier

iii. richer or poorer? a li'l more comfortable money-wise but richer ain't the word :)

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
lindsey lohan, jessica alba, and jessica simpson... Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central were great, too!!
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
this whole torture debate. i'm sorry, i'm sensitive and non-violent at heart, but this is WAR people... "they" are not gonna be humane to us so i say fight fire with fire... also, this dubya bashing is so old... he's the LEADER of our country. STFU and let him do his job.. don't like it, vote for someone else next time or just MOVE dammit!!

leslie, i guess...i'd like to see her boobies -lol-
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
i learned (or at least i'm learning) to let the past be the past... don't hold your loved ones' mistakes against them ... we all make mistakes: forgive and forget...forgiveness can be easy but the forget part is hard... i'm learning to TRY to forget
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
referring back to #16:
If you need a friend,
don't look to a stranger,
You know in the end,
I'll always be there.
And when you're in doubt,
and when you're in danger,
Take a look all around,
and I'll be there.
I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say.
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be.
But if you'll wait around a while, I'll make you fall for me,
I promise, I promise you I will.
When your day is through,
and so is your temper,
You know what to do,
I'm gonna always be there.
Sometimes if I shout,
it's not what's intended.
These words should come out,
with no gripe to bear.
I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say. (I promise)
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be. (I promise)
But if you'll wait around a while, I'll make you fall for me,
I promise, I promise you...
I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say. (I promise)
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be. (I promise)
And if I had to walk the world, I'd make you fall for me,
I promise, I promise you I will.
